FEATURED ARTIST NOMINATION FORM

The Magnolia Park Día de los Muertos Planning Committee invites community members and artists to nominate theirs or another’s original artwork for a chance to be featured in our Quiosco Exhibit, a centerpiece attraction celebrating creativity, culture, remembrance, and community.

Whether it’s work are from an emerging artist or experienced creator, this is an opportunity to share their talent with thousands of festival attendees and become part of a meaningful cultural tradition.

Theme: Honoring Culture, Tradition, History, and Spirit of Día de los Muertos

Nominators are encouraged to submit artists whose work is inspired by:

  • Día de los Muertos traditions

  • Family and remembrance

  • Latino/hispanic cultural heritage

  • Life, legacy, and celebration

  • Calaveras (skulls), marigolds, ofrendas, and symbolic imagery

  • Contemporary interpretations of Día de los Muertos

We welcome both traditional and innovative artistic approaches.

Accepted Mediums

We welcome a variety of original artwork, including:

  • Painting

  • Drawing

  • Mixed media

  • Digital art

  • Printmaking

  • Photography

  • Collage making

  • Fiber arts

  • Cultural and folk art

All submitted artwork must be original and created by the artist. No AI (artificial intelligence) generated work will be considered.

Submission Deadline: September 1, 2026

Artist Notification: September 15, 2026

Festival & Quiosco Exhibit: October 24, 2026

Who Can Participate?

We welcome nominations for:

  • Artists with a connection to Magnolia Park and/or the East End of Houston

  • Professional and emerging artist

  • Nominations and self-nominations are accepted

The Quiosco Exhibit

The Featured Artist will receive:

  • The space inside the park’s gazebo/quiosco to display and sell their artwork during the festival

  • Be featured in festival marketing and social media

  • The opportunity to preserve and celebrate Día de los Muertos traditions through art

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated by the Planning Committee and will select an artist based on:

  • Creativity and originality

  • Artistic quality and craftsmanship

  • Connection to the theme

  • Visual impact

  • Storytelling and cultural significance

Last year’s Featured Artist, Jatziri Barron, was selected to paint a mural for FIFA World Cup 2026!
